Full Text:
Pentagon Doubletalk Washington, D.C. - In an attempt to promote the Reagan administration's new "softer" image on nuclear war, the Pentagon's annual Defense Guidance, a secret document for the nation's top military commanders, was carefully cleansed of inflammatory rhetoric about fighting a "winnable" nuclear war. However, a defense official emphasized that none of the military's policy has been altered, even though this document was altered for public consumption. As Defense Secretary Casper Weinberger put it last summer, "Of course, you are not going to plan to lose." Illustrated History--1983 © 1983 Mariona Barkus
