Pete Jimenez saw it from the protest lines outside the Astrodome. Both ACT UP/L.A. members had an unforgettable week --one the TV cameras didn't entirely capture. Jimenez, a 28-year-old Hollywood man who has had AIDS for five years, found his week filled with showdowns with law enforcement officers, strangers who had broken into his hotel room, and keeping one step ahead of gay-bashers. The Aug. 17 demonstration of a burning effigy of Bush ended with a few hundred ACT UP members fleeing charging police, roaming KKK members and gay-bashers, Jimenez said. "When the police charged the group near the Astrodome, people headed for park but they turned the lights out," Jimenez said. "People were being clubbed left and right. [Text on the back of poster] Condoms For Teens Now Teenagers in the United States have long been beseiged by the contradictions of a society that gives them very little credit. On the verge of adulthood, teeagers are not allowed information that will shape the types of adults they could become. Instead, adult society restricts the information given to teens and then punishes them for making the wrong choices, never thinking that the answer is to give teenagers more information in the first place. The Average Teenager Has Had Sex By Age 16! 57% Of High School Students Have Had Sex! Over 60% Do Not Use Condoms! The Fastest Growing Group For New AIDS Cases --20-29 Years! Incubation Period -- 5-10 years! Only 50% Of Parents Rarely If Ever Talk Openly About Sex With Their children! ACT UP Los Angeles 213 669 7301 Action = Life
