I will write peace on your wings and you will fly all over the world Sadako Sasaki, age 12, inspired the children of Japan and the world to work for peace by her brave attempt to fold 1,000 paper cranes before she died of radiation poisoning from the bombing of Hiroshima. The Poster Project: Celebrating Women This poster is one in a series produced for buses and other public places. The project was made possible through the generous support of the California Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Atlantic Richfield Foundation, Standard Brands, the Ahmanson Foundation, and the Woman's Building. The posters were produced by letterpress on a Vandercook 219P using the Woman's Building graphic studio. Two hundred copies were printed for public display, along with a signed limited edition on Arches cover paper. The Poster Project was directed by Cheri Gaulke, the Woman's Building CAC artist-in-residence, working with collaborating artists: Connie Macias, Vilma Mendillo, Julie Santoro; Bonnie Thompson Norman, technical advisor; Kiyoko Ohkubo, consultant. Special thanks to Toyomitsu Tanaka, Director of the Hiroshima Representative Office. This bus poster was designed by Harriet Sherry Smith and Sandra Golvin.
