The May 5 Moratorium was the second of two major initiatives in the spring of 1971 spearheaded by the Student Mobilization Committee. Thousands of demonstrators, including many veterans, marched on the U.S. capital, resulting in the largest mass arrest in U.S. history, with a total of 12,000 people over the course of five days.
