Exhibition Annotation:
Maria Cueto, Ricardo Romero, and others were targeted by the FBI in the 1970s and 1980s, for allegedly being leaders of the FALN (Fuerzas Armadas de Liberacion Nacional), a violent faction of the Puerto Rican independence movement. Although no connection with FALN was established, in 1983 they were sentenced for refusing, as a matter of conscience, to testify before a grand jury investigating the FALN.
