This march is an annual commemoration and remembrance of the people who have died or been badly injured while in the custody of Hackney police officers. We will not forget the death of Aseta Simms who died in the custody of Stoke Newington police officers in 1971; Michael Ferreira who died in the custody of the Stoke Newington police officers in 1978; Tunay Hassan who died in the custody of Dalston Police officers in 1987; Colon Roach who died on the steps of Stoke Newingotn police station in 1983. We will not forget the injuries in which Trevor Monerville needed a major operation three years ago today after being held in Stoke Newington police station; Gary Stretch who was badly beaten by off duty City Road Police officers in 1987; Raphael Joseph who was nearly beaten to death by Dalston police officers in 1989. We will not forget the death of the Hackney Resident Jamie Stewart, who died in the custody of the Holloway police officers in 1989. This commemoration is also for those who have died or suffered State violence, outside Hankey, London and other parts of Britain.
